One of the bright spots of the ongoing COVID-19 health crisis is the number of companies and organizations that have stepped up to award grants to those in need. Global brands from every corner of the earth are doing their part to help with COVID-19 relief efforts. As the pandemic continues to grow in severity and duration, it is more important than ever for business leaders to recognize that they can play a pivotal role in helping the world navigate this challenging time. Here are six organizations that are taking it upon themselves to provide grants to a number of causes related to the pandemic.

Louis Vuitton

The luxury French fashion house is using its stockpile of goods and materials to benefit the greater good during the health crisis. Louis Vuitton recently announced that it is converting some of its workshops to transition them to the production of nonsurgical facial masks and hospital gowns. The retailer said the supplies would be donated at no cost to states that have been most heavily affected by the virus. In addition, the company said it will use some of its perfume production lines in France to make hand sanitizer.

Target

Target is blazing a leadership path by providing $10 million to COVID-19 relief as part of a joint fund with the Target Foundation. The bulk of the money will go to assist employees that have been affected by the virus. Part of the grant is also going to a myriad of outside organizations to help with the rebuilding efforts. Specifically, Target is giving $5 million in grants to various nonprofits that help underserved communities.

Walmart

Not to be outdone by one of its major competitors, Walmart has also committed to donating at least $35 million to assist with the relief efforts. The money is being distributed to many countries through a series of specific grants designed to meet the needs of individual communities. Walmart said that a few of the countries expected to see the money from these grants include India, Africa, Chile, and more. Walmart said that in addition to direct support, the company is eager to direct grants within its international markets to encourage small businesses.

Amazon

Online commerce giant Amazon is doing its part to support the local businesses in the city of their corporate headquarters. The $5 million Neighborhood Small Business Relief Fund is designed to help the small businesses of Seattle remain in business through the tough economic times brought about by the pandemic. The grant is directed toward business with either fewer than 50 employees or with less than $7 million in annual revenue. The businesses can use this money to retain and pay their employees, pay rent costs, and cover any other operating expenses.

Google

The global technology industry has been a leader in awarding grants throughout this crisis and Google is no different. They recently pledged $1 million in grant money to local organizations in Mountain View, its corporate home town. The money is earmarked to support small businesses while also boosting computer science and other STEM learning opportunities in the local school district. This financial support is in addition to the $25 million in donated ad credit that Google awarded to the World Health Organization and other government agencies.

Oprah Winfrey Charitable Foundation

Media mogul Oprah is making a concerted effort to give back to the communities in which she has lived at various stages in her life, including Chicago, Milwaukee, Baltimore, Nashville, and Kosciusko, Mississippi. In her current place of residence, Oprah gave $5 million to Live Healthy Chicago, a movement dedicated to providing support to seniors and other high-risk individuals more at risk of the coronavirus. Oprah is also giving $2 million to NashvilleNurtures to feed 10,000 families in the city. In Milwaukee, Oprah awarded SaintA and The Nia Imani Family, Inc. with $100,000 to help those in need of mental health care services and housing costs.

It is clear that nobody is going to get through this pandemic unscathed. By stepping up and providing financial support in the form of grants and other monetary donations, these companies are showing why they are the leaders in their respective industries. It will take a concerted effort by a variety of companies to provide the support and financial backing needed to forge through the crisis.
